Mabele is known as edible kaolin clay from D.R. Congo and neighboring countries. It is also found in different African countries under various local names such as Calaba (Cameroon), Ayilo (Ghana).

During pregnancy, this item is traditionally used by some African ethnic groups. They advocate the use of clay against nausea and vomiting. Its uses include, among others, gastric disorders, beauty of the skin and the purification of water.

Though kaolin clay often has other minerals present that add slight coloration to the clay, most often it has a pinkish hue from iron oxide or a greenish color from decomposing plant material. In general, the brighter white the kaolin clay, the better quality it is considered.

Some common uses: Pottery, ceramics, pharmaceuticals (for digestive tract/stomach relief) and cosmetics (Mud Mask: Exfoliator actions on skin and oily scalp ).
