Scientifically known as "ocimum gratissimum"(wild basil), Massep (Mesep, wild or tropical basil) is used in Central Africa cuisines. Just to name few places, it is very popular in Bétis'tribe cuisine in Cameroon known as “Massep”; in D. R. Congo, the plant is called Lumba-Lumba (in Lingala language), Tshaluabeni (in Tshiluba language). Not only it is used to flavour dishes in cooking during major ceremonies, this plant is used to treat bronchitis and abdominal pain.
